The University of Calicut, established in 1968, is the largest university in Kerala, dedicated to promoting educational excellence in the Malabar region. In 2019, the Department of Forensic Science was founded and is currently based at the Kerala Police Academy. The department offers specialized training and education to support forensic science practices within the criminal justice system. The department currently offers an M.Sc. Programme with five different specializations in forensic science:
- Forensic Biology, Serology, and DNA Fingerprinting
- Forensic Physics and Ballistics
- Forensic Chemistry and Toxicology
- Fingerprints and Questioned Documents
- Cyber Security and Digital Forensics
